The VAC system powers the high-draw utilities such as the air conditioner, microwave oven and television. The 12VDC system supplies power to the vehicle using batteries to run the dashboard systems and most lighting. When parked, a power converter transforms a portion of the incoming VAC power to 12VDC to run those systems and keep the RV’s batteries fully charged. It is possible to troubleshoot a malfunctioning power converter in several ways. If not sure that there is VAC power being received, try using a circuit checker such as a ground fault circuit interrupter on the main or primary power outlet of the pedestal output. Utility Hook Ups When you are in a camp ground that has either partial hookups usually only water and electric or has full hookups water, electric, and sewer , usually hooking up your utility connections is the next step after levelling your RV. Water Connection Now you are ready for the water connection. First attach the regulator to the water inlet of your RV.
Usually hand tightening is enough to stop any leaks. If you are having trouble getting any leaks to stop, possibly the washers are old, worn, or no longer supple. It is a good idea to be sure that there is a screen-type hose washer on the inlet side of both your water filter and your water regulator at least that is what I do. If any large particles of stuff somehow happen to get into the water source, these screens keep the larger stuff from entering your water filter or water regulator, and eventually plugging them up.
None of us enjoy the “surprise” of taking a big gulp of water and feeling something besides cool water going down our throat! Some folks like to put the water regulator right at the RV site hose bib and then put the water filter up near the RV—this probably is the most prudent way. The idea is to first reduce the water pressure so that the hose doesn’t rupture from too much pressure, but I have never had a problem putting the water pressure regulator on the RV-end of the water hose.
If you have trouble stopping a pesky leak, even by using new hose washers, try a “donut washer. They compress much more easily and pesky leaks easily disappear. Now, attach your water hose to the hose bib at your RV site, and then attach the water filter to the other end the coach end.

No matter what you plug into, your coach will only have 30A. Your 30A coach should handle a W heater without a problem. Having 50A at the outlet, you will still have the same problems running the heater and the microwave that you would with a 30A outlet. Using ‘ of wire is a concern. The longer the wire, the heavier it must be to deliver the full current at the other end.

How much does it usually cost to get a new electrical hookup? We will probably be living in a motorhome for a few months this Summer while our new house is being built and I’m trying to figure out how much it will cost to have the power lines run out and a temporary pole put in immediately. I want to pay cash for the land, motorhome and power hook up but there is still a big question mark hanging over the electrical issue.
I’m also hoping to get the septic tank in quickly so that I can hook the RV into that too, but with heavy equipment moving around I might have to wait for the foundation, backfill and grading to be finished first. I figure that the motorhome won’t depreciate much in the space of 4 months with zero milage being put on it and I can sell it for most of what I paid once the house is done.
